A Visit to Tulip and Rose Gardens in Delhi
February is often called the month of flowers — a time when winter gently fades and nature prepares for a colorful celebration. In Delhi, this season brings with it one of the most awaited attractions of the year — the Tulip Festival.
This year, I decided to begin my floral journey early, hoping to capture the magic right at the start.
The tulips at Chanakyapuri have become a seasonal highlight over the years. Last year, I visited the tulip festival on its final day. The flowers were still beautiful, but by the time the news and pictures were shared, many visitors who arrived later were disappointed as the blooms had already faded.
Determined not to repeat that experience, I visited again on February 9th this year — hoping to see vibrant carpets of pastel-colored tulips lining both sides of the road.

But nature works on its own timeline.
The tulips were still budding. A few had begun to bloom, but the grand floral display was yet to unfold. Gardeners on site shared that the peak bloom — and the official festival atmosphere — would likely begin around February 15th.
So if you’re planning a visit, mid-February is the perfect window. Tulips typically stay in full bloom for only one to two weeks, making timing everything.
Visitors can not only enjoy the scenic beauty but also purchase potted tulip plants to take home — a lovely way to extend the joy of the season.
An Unexpected Discovery: The National Rose Garden
Just about 800 meters from the tulip stretch, an unexpected sight caught my attention — the stunning National Rose Garden.
From the outside alone, it looked inviting. Curiosity led me inside — and what a rewarding decision that was.

The garden houses over 1,250 varieties of roses, blooming in hundreds of shades and forms. Some roses grow in bunches, some have massive layered petals, while others bloom delicately in perfect symmetry. Each variety carries a name — some royal, some poetic, some inspired by celebrities or historical personalities.
February, interestingly, is an in-between period — the tail end of the rose season (which peaks from November to January) and the beginning of tulip season. While it wasn’t peak rose festival time, the garden still offered a spectacular display.
Sometimes, the beauty of a place lies in these quieter, transitional moments.
