Now it’s tulip festival time in Delhi! Every year since 2018, the Tulip Festival has been held at Shanti Path, in front of the Sudan Embassy. This year, 1.46 lakh tulips were planted on both sides of the road at Shanti Path. Every winter, tulip bulbs are imported from the Netherlands. The tulip is the national flower of the Netherlands. In 2017–18, 17,000 bulbs were imported. Whereas this year, 2.25 lakh bulbs were imported, with a significant portion planted in other parks across Delhi.

One of the highlights of the tulip plantation at Chanakyapuri is the friendliness of the visitors—offering chairs to sit and enjoy the colorful tulips basking in the sunlight and even volunteering to take pictures with my phone. So, I took a few pictures.
One lakh potted tulips are available for sale. I bought one—a pink tulip—for Rs. 217. When I visited, violets were also on sale in large numbers.

As soon as you see a tulip you want, grab it! When I first arrived, I spotted a beautiful yellow and red tulip, but by the time I returned to buy it, it had already sold out for the day.
Preserve the tulip bulb for the next season
Leave the bulb in the pot, and it will sprout and bloom again next season. Cut the stem and do not pour any water. You can enjoy another display of colourful tulips in your garden the next season.
Tulips are now also being grown in Himachal Pradesh. That helps to reduce the reliance on importing large quantities of tulip bulbs from the Netherlands. The twelve-day tulip festival in Delhi will conclude on February 23. A tulip blossoms for hardly a fortnight before it fades, but while they last, they bring warmth to the chilled winter air.
